Abstract

Location Effect on Strawberry Quality1 Suraphong Kosiyachinda, Manit Kosittrakul , Peeradet Tongumpai, Saichol Ketsa and Viehit vangnai2 ABSTRACT Tioga strawberries were harvested on March 19 - 22,1983 from 3 different growing areas. They were Chang Kian, Intanon and Mae Sai. The study was conducted daily and shortly after harvest. Right after harvest strawberries of Intanon had over 2% SS higher than those of the other two areas with 5.65 and 5.14%. They were highly significantly different. The TA were 0.75 - 0.95% in both stages. It was not statistically different within the same stage. Similar pattern was found in full color fruits and SSITA ratios. Flesh firmness of Intanon strawberries was 2.16 kglcm2 in the first day. It was firmer than that of Chang Kian and Mae Sai, but at full color stage their values were slightly different (1.04 - 1.29 kg/cm2). Data indicate that Tioga strawberries from higher elevation areas tend to have slightly better quality. It was confirmed by organoleptic test. However the fruits have their own characteristic of low % SS and comparably high % TA. The taste is not palatable, if strawberries are eaten as they are without any seasoning.

Abstract

The comparative study on fruit quality of eight mature-green eating mago cultivars namely ‘Malila’ ‘Tongdum’ ‘lin Ngu Hou’ ‘Kiew Sawoey’ ‘Read’ ‘Pimsen Mun’ ‘Nong Saeng’ and ‘Mun Haew’ was investigated in reation to their physical and chemical characters. The results showed that Malila had the highest fruit weight and largest fruit weight and largest fruit volume. The specific gravity of the fruit was found significantly different among these cultivars with Mun Heaw, Lin Ngu Hoa and Tongdum had the specific gravity greater than 1.0 and high vitamin C content (28.75-30.74 mg/100 g fresh weight) while Malila, Kiew Sawoey, Raed and Nong Saeng had the specific gravity lower than 1.0 and low vitamin C content (15.42-19.55 mg/100 g fresh weight). Mun Haew, Nong Saeng, Lin Ngu Hou and kiew Sawoey were the cultivars having high ratio of total soluble solids/titratable acidity (15.37-25.68) but Tongdum, Pimsen Mun and Read cultivars had low ratio of soluble solids/titratable acidity (7.42-7.66). These mangoes had total nonstructural carbohydrates ranged from 510.54 to 8.6.54 mg D-glucose/g dry weight. Cultivars with low ratio of total soluble solids/titratable acidity tended to have low total nonstructural carbohydrates.

Abstract

Electrophoretic analysis of leaf extracts was used to identify lime cultivars and the interspecific hybrid of lime and leech lime. Both cold distilled water and phosphate buffer could be used as extraction buffer. In addition, the same isozyme patterns were obtained from the leaf extracts of three-month old cultured seedling and one-year-old potted plants. There was no difference in the peroxidase isozyme profiles in all cultivars of lime and leech lime tested. The esterase isozymes gave better discrimination in cultivars and inter specific hybrid characteristic. The observation of leaf morphology combined with isozyme analyses could differentiate between zygotic and nucellar seedlings after three-month growth in vitro.
